Robert Moses
A prominent American urban planner and public official who had a major impact on the development of New York City between the late 1800's and early 1900s.
Moses was known for his aggressive and controversial approach to urban planning, utilising his positions of power.
He had many citizens protest against him with his plans for reforming and removing sections of neighbourhoods, primarily with his slum clearance and notably the Lower Manhattan Expressway (LOMEX).
Jane Jacobs
Jane Jacobs was an American-Canadian writer and activist best known for her influential critiques of urban planning and her advocacy for community-based, bottom-up approaches to city building.
Jacobs preferred methods of natural surveillance rather than locked doors, CCTV and high fences that create a hostile environment where citizens may feel unsafe walking the streets.
