A FOREST CITY                       

Stefano Boeri: Vertical Forest (2017)

Based in Liuzhou, China, the architect designed this monumental forest city to feature over 40,000 trees and over a million shrubs/ plants/ flowers to battle pollution caused by urban environments. This concept mainly consists of high-density residential zones which could house over 30,000 people and still have access to transport, access to the main city and live in an oxygen-rich environment. 

This particular project is inspiring due to the sheer amount of work it would contribute back to the environment, tackling one of the main problems with urban cities: air pollution.

THE MOVING CITY

Manuel Dominguez: City that rolls along on caterpillar tracks (2013)

The concept of this radical urban scheme is fascinating due to its overbearing frame, rolling on mechanical tracks. The idea from this design suggests a city shouldn't be stationary and fixed in one position but instead relocate and keep moving to produce energy: a self-sufficient city.

Although an innovative concept, the main requirement for such a project would be entirely level ground beneath for hundreds of miles in order to properly produce enough energy for the city.

The architecture is split into three different levels of functionality: L1: Warehouse and construction area; L2: Waste disposal and air conditioning; L3: Living deck with architectural structures and residential buildings.

Analysing the rendered image of the conceptual proposal, it would seem as though the gigantic structure would be completely overbearing for those below.

Having a  mechanical object move over the area, carrying the weight of a city on its shoulders would ultimately destroy the land it roams.
